The other day, Denzel Washington and his family visited US troops at Brook Army Medical Center (BAMC), in San Antonio, Texas.

This is where soldiers who have been evacuated from war zones come to be hospitalized in the United States - especially burns victims.

There are several buildings on the base called Fisher Houses. A Fisher House is where soldiers' families can stay for little or no charge, while their soldier is staying on base. But as you can imagine, they are full most of the time.

While Denzel Washington was visiting BAMC, he was given a tour of one of the Fisher Houses. He asked how much it would cost to build another one, and then took out his check book and wrote a check for the full amount - right there on the spot.

The soldiers on base were amazed at this, and wanted to get the word out to the American public, because it warmed their hearts so much.

But did you actually hear this story on the radio?

See a report on TV?

Read about it in the newspapers?

No.

The question is - why? After all, it's a terrific story.

Because Denzel Washington's amazing act of charity didn't fit with the media's standard narrative of black guys only doing bad things.

President Obama and Justice Sonia Sotomayor are already a lot more than the good ol' boys network can possibly rationalize - and then along comes this other black guy doing something really good?

Better bury that story right away. Don't wanna burst the white people's little delusion bubble, do we?
